My new hot man :D I may have to go and watch all the films I've not seen him in yet.

And he's German! I could practice with him - or maybe meet him next year when I go there :D

(why wont the pictures show!)

This mainly for me, since when I have been away for a while I usually forget how to do the simplest things. But I am making it public incase it is useful for anyone else as well.

In all of them remove the space next to the < and > at the beginning and end of the line. And when [ and ] are used replace with < >.

LJ CUT

[ lj-cut text = "wordsofcut" > the writing hidden < /lj-cut ]

Hello and welcome :D

USER NAME

[ lj user="name" ]

jane_olive

WEBSITES

< a href="http://www.thewebsite.com/">text of link</a>

This will take you to Google

IMAGES

< img scr="theurl" >
< img scr="theurl"height"250" > (changing the numbers will adjust the size)

It has to be only the image, not the page its displayed on - so needs jpg at the end.

Images hosting site - tinypic.com / or lj scrapbook.

WORDS

bold - < b>bold</b>
italics - < i>italics</i>
underline - < u>underline</u>
<s>strikethrough</s> - < s>strikethrough</s>
subscript - sub< sub>script
superscript - super< sub>script
Teletype - Tele< tt>type</tt>

COLOURS

The basic code looks like this: < font color="color">Word being colored</font>

yellow
blue
green
black
white
aqua
fuscia
lime
maroon
navy
olive
silver
gold
teal
gray

Or at least there will be more when I get round to adding it.
A Rare Rant

I am so ****ing annoyed at my Uni. The module choices in History were uninteresting this year, so I chose the best one and then began to quite look forward to it. And then TWO weeks before term starts they email to say sorry but they've changed it from term 1 to 2 due to 'reasons too long to go into'. Two weeks!!! They don't even sound like it's that much of an inconvenience! I actually can't change it I'm afraid! I do have other modules. I have spent a small fortune on books, and started to read a bit (though not as much as I meant to) - and suddenly I have to change. Arrrhhh!

Bryan's glare will show you how annoyed I am.... be afraid.

The Prestige

I would like to really recommend this film. If you want something that's clever, appreciates its audiences intellect and always keeps you guessing. Best film I have watched in a while :)

It's about the rivalry between two magicians, and is full of trickery and illusion.

Books!!!!!

I think i have done this before - but the list might be different so: (edit: it's not, but I have highlighted some different book, must be my memory)

Apparently “The Big Read” assumes that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed.
Wow, really?

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people
who've read 6 and force books upon them ;-)

I have also added if I have seen a film/tv of the book.

1 Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen by LibraryThing’s users. As in, they sit on the shelf to make you look smart or well-rounded. Bold the ones you've read, underline the ones you read for school, italicize the ones you started but didn't finish. (I tend to finish books, so again will italicize those I really want to read).

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell
Anna Karenina
Crime and Punishment
Catch-22
One Hundred Years of Solitude
Wuthering Heights
The Silmarillion
Life of Pi
The Name of the Rose
Don Quixote
Moby Dick
Ulysses
Madame Bovary
The Odyssey
Pride and Prejudice
Jane Eyre
A Tale of Two Cities
The Brothers Karamazov
Guns, Germs, and Steel
War and Peace
Vanity Fair
The Time Traveler's Wife
The Iliad
Emma
The Blind Assassin
Zatoichi
The Kite Runner
Mrs. Dalloway
Great Expectations
American Gods
A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius
Atlas Shrugged
Reading Lolita in Tehran
Quicksilver Exposition
Wicked
The Canterbury Tales
The Historian
A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
Love in the Time of Cholera
Brave New World
The Fountainhead
Foucault's Pendulum
Middlemarch
Frankenstein
The Count of Monte Cristo
Dracula
A Clockwork Orange
Anansi Boys
The Once and Future King
The Grapes of Wrath
The Poisonwood Bible I love this book!
1984
Angels & Demons
The Inferno
The Satanic Verses
Sense and Sensibility
The Picture of Dorian Gray
Mansfield Park
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
To the Lighthouse
Tess of the D’Urbervilles
Oliver Twist
Gulliver's Travels
Les Misérables
The Corrections
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
Dune
The Prince
The Sound and the Fury
Angela's Ashes
The God of Small Things
A People’s History of the United States
Cryptonomicon
Neverwhere
A Confederacy of Dunces
A Short History of Nearly Everything
Dubliners But I love it!
The Unbearable Lightness of Being
Beloved
Slaughterhouse-five
The Scarlet Letter
Eats, Shoots & Leaves bits of it anyway
The Mists of Avalon
Oryx and Crake
Collapse
Cloud Atlas
The Confusion
Lolita
Persuasion
Northanger Abbey
The Catcher in the Rye
On the Road
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Freakonomics
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
The Aeneid
Watership Down
Gravity's Rainbow
The Hobbit
In Cold Blood
White Teeth
Treasure Island
David Copperfield

which is 20 of those...

Ep 4

Damn Torchhwood, damn damn Torchwood

Ianto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not true, I refuse to believe it. Jack will find a way to give him life..... he will!!!!!!!!! *wail*

Edit:

No. No, this is suicide for the show. Ianto as far as I am aware is one of the main characters as far as people's affection/loyalty goes. Is there expected to be a 4th series??? Cause by the look of it its going to get axed like Robin Hood was. They have got rid of the hub and the car - ok so they can replace that. But I don't think I have the emotional energy to grow attached to new members of a team. I could have got used to one or two, to replace Owen and Tosh. But they cant replace all of them now. In Doctor Who fine - you expect the rotation - that is why they hit on such a winning formula, cause it can carry on and the audience expects it. This I am not sure if I can watch a 4th series, Gwen and Jack (God, I can just see the writers trying to put them together). This is like Robin Hood, they kill everyone off, them realise no one wants to watch it any more and it gets dropped.

So YOU HAD BETTER BRING IANTO BACK - OR ELSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SERIOUSLY
(I am holding my shiny new wodden sword that I got at a festival up to your neck)

.....and I am not in denial, really.

(contains Robin Hood spoilers since I have brought it into the conversation)

Legend of the Seeker

I would just like to highlight to people my new obsession :) Legend of the Seeker!!!!!!

If you have not seen it try it (on youtube - can't find the dvds). It's like a cross between Robin Hood and Lord of the Rings - with the whole fantasy fighting evil thing!

It's based on a series of fantasy books by Terry Goodkind - which not read before but now want to try. The series is really good though cause it's 22 episodes long which means you can really get into it. The filming in amazing!!! was done in New Zealand in HD - plus they know how to frame their shots and do their editing. Which I know someone complained about with Robin Hood when comparing it to Merlin.

Oh and the main guy gets cute as you get used to him and the girl has an awesome dress!!

Isabella - Robin Hood

I think she's interesting because she's complicated, and my opinion of her keeps changing each episode.

I think she wants, or at least feels she needs, a protector - maybe cause of whatever happened with her husband - even though she seems perfectly able to fight for herself. Maybe it's more of a preservation tactic.

First she comes to her brother for protection, but then when he did not seem to care too much she turns to Prince John, with all his power, flattering him even though you can see she does not always like him. I do think he intrigues her though because of some of the looks she gives him. Then over Robin it's like she has put her own image on him, where they can make a family and he can look after them, and she does not appreciate it when he tears that down.

It's sometimes a bit hard to see in what direction she's headed, and how far things like being annoyed at both Guy and Robin in this episode are true or faked. But I think she's like her brother a bit in the survival instinct, aligning yourself with whoever is one the winning side and most likely to give you what you want/need.

'I've never seen star wars'

Just a little question for people related to this programme. I was bored so I watched some on iplayer and it's actually quite interesting.

What things would you like to do that you have never done before?

It's usually a few activities along with a well known book/film they haven't read/seen.

For me: two things I would like to do are sword fighting and sky diving. Book wise I want to read 'Midnight Children' cause it seems to be one people either love or hate. And I think I should watch 'Red Dwarf" cause what with the new episodes everyone goes What!! when I say I have not seen it.

"Being Human"

So, I like Russel Tovey, I think he's a brilliant actor. So when I was flicking channels and a scene of him in 'Being Human' came on I thought I would watch it. Just that scene though, cause the series has not interested me so far.

Basically vampires, werewolves and all really don't interest me. If a novel, film or fanfic mentions them I tend to run a mile.

But this really broke my prejudice, it was funny as well as being emotionally interesting. So that's me told off, and another tv show to add to the pile.

Vampire guy: Did you just hit me with a chair?
Anna: Yes...sorry!

and then:

George: That was pathetic! We are like the world's gayest ninjas (with little accompanying gesture).

Fight starts about 9 mins in :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLn_c1sqCn0&feature=related

Robin Hood Take 2

Why does Guy have spurs? It is starting to annoy me. And I spent a lot of time trying to figure out if the Sheriff's fake tooth is red.

I hope Guy being dragged off does not mean bye bye for a episode, and this episode just felt like it was written to introduce Kate, full stop.

I know I moan but I do actually like Robin Hood :)

Ice skating - I've been watching them over the last few years, cause they're good and I like them.
Robin Hood - a few bits

Now that Robin Hood is back on I need some icons - seeing as I deleted the last lot - been relying on those of RA from Spooks. And lovely they are too!!

Problem. For the next week I on a PC, whereas I have a Mac. I know how to use those. This PC is getting me very confused - how do I get an icon from it??

Also, I told myself I did not need the series 2 boxset, I have way too many dvd's already. I don't think I'm listening though, it's too tempting!

And at some point I will figure out how to get a mood theme on here - even the step by step is too hard!

Robin Hood

Ok, I hold up my hands - maybe Guy's new look is starting to grow on me. His hair... well we shall see about that - but the jacket, it's awesome!!

http://www.imagebam.com/image/efcac130108584/

Edit: I stand by what I said about the hair, it was really annoying me in the first episode. It kept falling over hsi face - I wanted to see his face!!!

Dear LJ,

I don't really know how to tell you this, but you're a leprechaun. I think I realized it when I saw the purple monkey in a clown suit and you pulled the clothes off my salt-beef bucket. I'm sure you're high enough to understand that you need a sex-change. I'm returning your car to you, but I'll keep your photo with the mustache drawn on it as a memory. You should also know that I was interviewed about the car you stole and you should get that embarrassing rash checked.

Greetings to your frog.
Jane Olive

Is this what going insane feels like??

Okay now its your turn! fill all this out by answering the questions and it creates a crazy letter! and then tag all your friends on it to have them read it and then fill one out for themselves! :)

Dear (person),
I don't really know how to tell you this, but (1).
The 'good-looking actors brigade' - or eye-candy for short!

Ok, so several people have been doing things similar to this and so I thought I would jump on the bandwagon :-)

This is my list of actors I like (it's generally actors I go for), cause I like their looks and their acting too! Please ignore me if you wish, it's just quite interesting for me to make this and see what it turns up with.

So in no particular order (and with a few odd ones I am sure):

The trouble with this is going to be restraining myself on the photos :)

Richard Armitage:
